Here is a simple and proven idea that we have taken and made something a little better.
In a slow speed spill, it is not uncommon for the fairing bracket to punch through a light weight fibreglass fairing. A simple solution to this is to put a large penny washer on the inside and outside of the fairing to spread the lead a bit which works great. it doesn't look the best however and of course there is that weight penalty too.
Our solution takes on this great idea with the aim of making something that looks better and is lighter whilst maintaining much of the strength of the penny washer.VFR750 RC24 inside fairing 1.3 |
To receive this force on the other side of the fairing is a similar cone shaped washer as you can see in fig 1.3 that will return the force to the fairing stay, hopefully without it punching through your fairing at the same time.
Of course if you have a big enough spill, your fairing is toast anyway, miracles these will not do.
Sometimes simple ideas are the best ones and we are really chuffed with these.
Yamaha RD250 post crash 1.4
So chuffed infact we decided to test them when Gavin Heggs' Yamaha RD250 decided to highside at the 2022 Donington park classic motorcycle festival.
This racing veteran of a machine has been down the road once or twice before and you can make out a crack line on the fibreglass where a previous penny washer had saved the fairing in the past. As you can also see however, the finishing washer has hit the deck and done its bit to prevent further damage to this are of the fairing. Not a bad job for a cheap little upgrade like this.
If you fancy a set, they are currently available in M6 on our eBay shop or just send us an email.
